Your Questions About Home Security Store

Ruth asks…
Why are there so many Security Manager jobs available at Home Depot?
There are lots of Store Security Manager positions open with Home Depot all over the country.

spytools answers:
I am a former employee of Home Depot and when I was there they tried recruiting myself and a couple others into loss prevention. They estimate a loss of over 100 million a year in stolen goods. If you are prior military or law enforcement with a degree then you can easily get into a high volume store (big bonuses) immediately. It is a sad statement on our current countries makeup but it is true….

Michael asks…
Can you change the chime on an ADT home security system?
My ADT system was installed today and I love the chime feature that sounds any time a door opens BUT it sounds like my house is the corner liquor store/gas station. I HATE IT.
I want to change the chime from the dee-doo to something else.
Can i?

Joseph asks…
Can the security at a store hold a minor child the age of 14, without first calling his parents?
If a minor was thought to be stealing at a store and security grabbed him and took him into holding quarters, doesn’t the law require them to contact his parents or at least let him answer his phone when his parents are calling him, looking for him because he is late coming home?

spytools answers:
In the US, a store’s employees can detain any suspected shoplifter for a brief time to investigate a theft.
They don’t have to call the parents first and they don’t have to let him answer his phone.

Mary asks…
How Can I Remove an Inkmate Security Tag At Home?
I recently purchased a hat, and upon getting back home realized it still had the Inkmate security tag on it. My college is an hour from any retail store that would be able to remove it. I’ve found some solutions online, but none that I can use, given the limited resources in my dorm room…
Anybody have any simple solutions?

spytools answers:
You take it back to the store you got it at. Not really any other option.

Daniel asks…
What are a person’s rights when being detained by plain clothes store security?
I was detained for an alleged theft by plain clothes security in a grocery store. It was 8:55pm. I frantically told them I had a 16 yo son stuck in another town with no ride and that he needed my help as it was cold and dark. I was told that if I signed a confession admitting guilt I would be let go. I was also told that if I helped restock/organize the shelves, he would help me by not calling the police. I refused as I had recently suffered a dislocated shoulder. I was also hesitant to get on my hands and knees as he instructed me to do to reach the lower shelves. Instead I stood there shaking while a dismayed clerk stocked (he’d been told to keep an eye on me). At no point was there even one other woman present. When finally allowed to make a call about my son security told me that I could not tell them where I was or what was happening AT ALL. If I did I would go straight to jail. I called home from a blocked ID and on speakerphone. I was arrested at 1130pm and finally called home.
